Recent Developments of Terahertz Communications

In recent years, with the rapid development of multimedia services, mobile traffic has exploded. The rapid development of intelligent terminal applications require wireless transmission speeds of several tens of Gbit/s. In order to be able to transmit such a high data rate, the carrier frequency needs to be increased to more than 100 GHz. This will alleviate the spectrum scarcity and capacity limitations of current wireless systems and enable new applications in the traditional network and next-generation wireless communications. This article provides an overview of terahertz communication systems and summarizes the research progress in key components.
