Flash Flood Prone Area Assessment Using Geomorphological And Hydraulic Model
JOURNAL OF ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND ECOLOGY(2015)
Abstract
The main goal of this paper is to delineate the flood prone areas in the Taita watershed using the geomorphological and hydraulic model. Taita River drains a small catchment situated in the Northern part of Dobrogea region (Romania), in a temperate continental climate. The performance of two topographic indices is evaluated based on their capabilities to predict and delineate the flood prone area. The results are compared with the results performed with the hydraulic model HEC-RAS. The results shows that there is a remarkable convergence in the location of flood prone areas and moreover, in the delineation of the inundation (flooded) area despite the fact that these models have very different input data requirements and backgrounds.
