Spring operating mechanism is an important equipment to open and close the circuit breaker in power system. For a high speed moving of opening and closing process within few milliseconds, the large contact force between the cam and the roller is occurred. To investigate the various dynamic characteristics of the spring operating mechanism, the dynamic model of cam and roller is established by using the ABAQUS based on the Hertz contact theory and the modified Coulumb friction law. The contact force, stress distribution and concentration of the cam and roller during the impact process are fully analyzed. Meanwhile the reason for easy damage of the roller is explained, and give the basis for new design of mechanism.
