Abstract
French healthcare system is currently evolving to address new issues about quality and costs of care. In the same time, general practice experiences an increased attention from national institutions. This document depicts the analysis of primary care organization in France by an expert group gathered below the aegis of the French National College of Teachers in General Practice. Based on a literature review, it presents the acknowledged definitions for primary care and general practice in the world and in France. In a second part, it displays their missions and tackles the issue about their efficiency for the healthcare system. At last, it describes the on going initiatives in this field of care in France.
