Making full use of radar range equation and the electromagnetic wave propagation theory, detection power assessing models of shore-based radars have been established in this paper successively, including free space, natural space and battle space respectively. Utilizing the proposed models, situations are executed with different heights to obtain their detection power in free space, natural space and battle space. With the increase of the construction height, radar detection range will be expanded, while detection blind area caused by multipath effects will shrink at the same time. Furthermore, simulations of constant target height, constant elevation about Signal Noise Ration and target detection distance are implemented to achieve effective detection range. According to optimization theory, optimal parameter settings are also acquired for effective SNR in radar detection. Since it not only provides valid theoretical reference to improve radar detection range and radar effective SNR, but also contributes to the assessment of radar detection power and overall radar's designing work significantly. This paper is of high engineering application value.
