Abstract
In this study we assessed whether regression of Kaposi's sarcoma (KS) was accompanied by improved natural killer (NK) cell activity in a group of AIDS-KS patients, undergoing HAART. The patients showing KS regression recovered NK cell activity to the sensitive targets. This was accompanied by the clearance of HHV-8 DNA sequences from peripheral blood and by the reduction of antibody (Ab) titres to lytic viral antigens. Thus, the results suggest a role for NK cells in the control of HHV-8 latent infection and KS.
