Abstract
The 2015-2016 excavations provided an opportunity to examine an edge of the timber and earth wall erected right on the slope of the site facing the Oka River. The excavations revealed a hole which probably represents remains of an escarp (or a moat), possibly, created in the middle of the 14th century when the fortification of the Rostislavl' citadel was reconstructed and substantially reinforced.
