Abstract
As one of the most critical technologies in higher education, the course management system (CMS) provides various advantages for both individuals and institutions. Despite the accepted importance and value of this technology, its meaningful use, and diffusion in higher education institutions, faculty adoption of the CMS still poses challenges for both faculty and administrators. Several factors categorized as teaching concerns, administrative approaches, and personal differences play a role in terms of faculty adoption. Hence, understanding these relevant factors affecting the use of CMSs in higher education and various technology adoption models can help the design, development, and implementation of more effective support and training mechanisms. Naturally, the path to adoption and institutionalization of CMSs requires time and effort. Therefore, it is important to have instructional technology support centers that act as change agents and apply various strategies to make the use of CMSs sustainable and satisfactory for all stakeholders.
