Abstract
Endoscopic retrograde cholangiography (ERC) with endoscopic sphincterotomy is commonly performed to remove the common bile duct (CBD) stone. However, in clinical practice, the recurrence of acute cholangitis due to residual CBD stones occurs frequently. The aim of this multicenter prospective randomized study was to determine whether preventive saline irrigation of the bile duct (PSIB) after endoscopic removal of CBD stones would decrease the residual CBD stones and recurrent cholangitis.
