The defense and restoration plans development is a part of a transmission system operator's responsibilities and requires thorough calculations, simulations and publication of instructions. The plans focus on extensive failures that have a heavy impact on a system operation and could lead to a black-out. To restore the system after such a fatal failure generation units that can start-up without outside help are essential. This ability is fairly easy to check. The units, which are able to start up independently after black-out are certified regularly and represent black-start ancillary services for TSO. However, the only way to check the practical applicability of the restoration plan as a whole is to test it in parallel with normal operation of the rest of the system. This process is called the real black start test and this paper deals with one such a test in Slovak power system. Specifically power plant Vojany1 self-consumption start test.
