Abstract
The defense and restoration plans development is a part of a transmission system operator's responsibilities and requires thorough calculations, simulations and publication of instructions. The plans focus on extensive failures that have a heavy impact on the system operation and could lead to a black-out. To restore the system after such fatal failure generation units that can start-up without outside help are essential. This ability is fairly easy to check. The units are certified regularly and represent black-start ancillary services for transmission system operator (TSO). However, the only way to check the practical applicability of the restoration plan as a whole is to test it in parallel with normal operation of the rest of the system. This process is called the real black start test and this paper deals with a one such test in Slovak power system. Specifically a thermal power plant EVO1 started from a pump-storage power plant (PVE) Ruzin and island operation with available loads followed by synchronization of the island to the rest of the power system that was done on October 27th, 2016.
