Abstract
Polycrystalline zinc sulfide (ZnS) samples doped by Cr2+ ions using hot isostatic pressing (at 100 MPa/1250 degrees C) were prepared. Their structure and spectroscopic properties were studied. Absorption saturation of Cr2+: ZnS is demonstrated at 1.54 mu m for ns-long pulses yielding a saturation intensity as low as 0.15 J/cm(2).
