Abstract
The experiment of Penetrator with Enhanced Lateral Effect (PELE) with diameter of 105mm vertically perforating reinforced concrete target was performed. The lateral effect of PELE in large calibre penetrating into reinforced concrete target was found. The dimensions of the front crater and the rear crater in the target were measured. Therefore, the performance of PELE making larger hole in the target is better than normal KE projectile. The model experiment work conditions of PELE impacting concrete targets were simulated by the non-linear finite element software ANSYS/LS-DYNA. The numerical simulation revealed well the physical process of experiment damage image of the crater formation, the back scabbing and the crack occurring of concrete targets. These will supply an important foundation to the mechanism analysis of the reinforced concrete against PELE.
