Particulate Emissions From Wood Burning And Their Contribution To Pm

Air pollution from biomass burning for heating purposes in residential buildings is a current air quality and health problem. The understanding of particulate emissions due to wood burning as the most common biofuel is therefore of great importance to develop clean air strategies. The present review article presents the state of knowledge regarding the identification of wood combustion tracers, their emission factors, as well as the fraction of particulate matter (PM) originating from wood combustion as determined from ambient air measurements. To this end, the results of more than 200 scientific research articles, both "grey literature" and publications in scientific journals, from the past 20 years have been summarized.
