A low-cost, compact OEIC without equalizer for 5Gb/s application

摘要
A low-cost, compact 5-Gb/s fully integrated CMOS optical receiver without equalizer, which consists of a Deep Nwell (DNW)-strip spatially-modulated photo detector (SMPD) and a dual negative feedback feed-forward common gate (DNFFCG) differential trans-impedance amplifier (TIA) is presented in this paper. The chip area is 0.5 mm by 0.45 mm. The differential trans-impedance amplifier consumes 17 mW from the 1.6-V supply. Combined with a high performance limiting amplifier, the OEIC without using equalizer can achieve a 5 Gbps very-short-reach OEIC receiver with high power efficiency and lower cost.
