A Meta-Analysis Of Prevalence Rates And Mental Health For Internet Addictive Adolescents In China

There has been significant interest in the impact of internet addiction on life of adolescents. In this meta-analytic review, we empirically evaluated differences in mental health between adolescents with IAD and non-IAD, at same time we also analyzed differences in prevalence rates and gender for IAD adolescents in China. 44 separate studies (N=84078, Age from 10-25 years old) were included in the analysis. The results yielded large effect sizes indicating poorer mental health among IAD adolescents and higher prevalence rates of IAD in male adolescents. Prevalence rates of IAD were significant difference among different cities. Prevalence rates of IAD were 13.24% and 5.17% for male and female adolescents respectively, and overall was 8.73%.
