Abstract
With more and more large cascade reservoirs being built and operated, the potentially adverse impact of dams on aquatic organisms is increasing. Ecological reservoir scheduling is emerging for the common development of the river ecosystems and the reservoir socioeconomic benefits. This paper proposes a new methodology of building the ecological reservoir scheduling model based on the hydrodynamic mathematical model, water quality model, and the aquatic spawning habitat evaluation model. The proposed method built the relationship function between reservoir scheduling parameters and water environment fitness for special aquatic based on the artificial neural network method. The advantage of this method is to explicitly quantify the reservoir ecological benefits, which has not been well addressed in the current ecological scheduling scheme. A case study was shown to prove the reservoir comprehensive benefits which balance river ecological benefits and economic benefits. This method can also be used to solve other large-scale reservoir ecological scheduling problems for protecting special aquatic life.
