•Both exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis was performed on HC-PAIRS.•The analysis revealed and confirmed a three-factor, 11-item HC-PAIRS-FI scale.•HC-PAIRS-FI is a valid and reliable tool that is well suited to the Finnish context.•Physiotherapists' attitudes and beliefs about pain can be assessed with HC-PAIRS-FI.
