A Novel Approach to Heuristic Evaluation - Mapping Usability Heuristics to Action Model and Usability Components.

Heuristic evaluation (HE) is one of the most popular usability evaluation methods. Despite its popularity, it has a major downside in that novice evaluators perform worse than expert evaluators when conducting it. Usability heuristics are general and could be open to different interpretations that make understanding them and implementing them difficult for novices. To make the usability heuristics clearer and more purposeful, they should be mapped to the overall goal of the evaluation. There are generally two main goals. One is to enable users to accomplish their goals in a given system, and the other is to enable them to accomplish their goals easily. In this work, we mapped Nielsen's usability heuristics to the aforementioned goals.
