摘要
•Sacha inchi (SI) is an underutilized oleaginous crop native to the Amazon basin.•SI oil has a remarkable quantity of α-linolenic acid (ω-3) and numerous bioactive components.•Hydrolysed SI protein have shown anti-inflammatory, antioxidative, antihypertensive and immunomodulatory activities.•A positive correlation exists between the consumption of SI seed/oil and reduced risk of chronic inflammatory diseases.•Phytonutrients, safety and health benefits of sacha inchi seed/oil have been discussed in detail.
