A New Approach for the Automatic Connection of Sensors to an IoT Platform

Today there are several platforms that allow the development of smart applications with the Internet of Things approach. These platforms process the context information produced by smart applications through different devices and sensors connected to the Internet. FIWARE is an open-source platform that impulses the standards creation for the development of smart applications and services of different domains, in the cloud. However, one of the main issues in the development of smart applications with these platforms has been the complexity associated to the connection between hardware and software. This paper presents a new approach for carrying on the automatic creation of software components that manage the communication between sensors and the FIWARE Platform. The proposed approach is based on the IoT agent mechanisms proposed by FIWARE Platform as an intermediary between devices and a IoT Platform. The paper also presents some examples of the software system that implements the proposed approach to automatically produce the code of the modules to manage the connection between sensor and FIWARE IoT Platform.
