•TSC1 gene knockout in a mouse resulted in paraspinal muscle myopathy.•TSC1mKO mice is by far, the best model to study the pathological consequence of sarcopenia.•Paraspinal muscle myopathy was established as early as 9 months.•TSC1mKO mice developed disc degeneration and disc wedging at 9 months.•Kyphosis of the spine with disc height loss and vertebral body wedging followed.
