•ADBSat is a panel method software that determines satellite aerodynamic coefficients.•Comparison to DSMC and to published literature are employed for validation.•In strict free-molecular flow, its performance is comparable to DSMC.•Its benefits when compared to DSMC are a reduced runtime and computational load.•Accuracy is reduced for analyzing complex satellite shapes with deep convex features.
