Using Caenorhabditis elegans to produce functional secretory proteins of parasitic nematodes

•C. elegans used for recombinant expression of secretory proteins from parasitic nematodes.•Optimization performed with different promoter regions, signal peptides and affinity tags.•Expression and purification of SOD and GST from H. contortus and O. volvulus.•Both recombinant proteins are posttranslationally modified and functional.•Sufficient quantities for biochemical and/or immunological studies were obtained.
