Clinical outcomes associated with the emergency treatment of hyperkalaemia with intravenous insulin-dextrose

•This is the largest study of its kind to date in the United Kingdom.•Insulin/dextrose (IDex) is transiently effective for hyperkalemia management.•Over 1 in 3 patients require retreatment with IDex for hyperkalemia within 24 hours.•IDex can cause hypoglycemia in up to 1 in 5 patients within 6 hours of treatment.•Frequent, regular glucose monitoring is crucial after IDex to ensure patient safety.
