Abstract
A large data rate is an essential requirement of 6G wireless communication systems. Index Modulation (IM) and Orbital Angular Momentum (OAM) which are introduced recently are two high spectral efficiency technologies. In IM, some additional information is conveyed by activating a subset of transmission entities, and OAM is a novel multiplexing scheme, which can be used in short distance wireless communication. In this paper, we propose the Orbital Angular Momentum and Mode Multiplexing based Index Modulation (OAM-MM-IM) method for increasing the spectral efficiency, in which by activating some OAM modes, and varying the modulation types of each activated OAM modes, additional information bits are sent. Also, for detecting the OAM-MM-IM signals, in addition to traditional Maximum Likelihood (ML) detector, we propose two new low complexity detectors that have a performance close to the ML detector. Simulation results indicate the outperforming of the proposed method compare to the reference OAM-IM method in SE and BER criteria. (C) 2021 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
