Abstract
•Methicillin-susceptible S. aureus (MSSA) spinal epidural abscesses (SEA) are treated with an antistaphylococcal penicillin.•This study compared cefazolin to cloxacillin as treatment for MSSA SEA.•Both antibiotics had similar mortality, antibiotic failure, adverse reaction and recurrence rates.•Cefazolin may also be considered as a first-line treatment for MSSA SEA.
