Treatment patterns and outcomes before and after human regular U-500 insulin initiation via KwikPen® among US veterans with type 2 diabetes mellitus

•First real-world study evaluating U-500R via KwikPen initiation for T2DM•Before U500-KP initiation, mean HbA1c was 9.5% with 59% of patients >9%.•Mean dispensed insulin amount increased by 82 units/day after U500-KP initiation.•Significant & clinically important HbA1c decrease (0.83%) post U500-KP initiation.•Symptomatic hypoglycaemia increased by 20% after U500-KP initiation.
