Investigating the effect of marking and delineation treatments on driver behavior at highway exit gore areas

•Marking and delineation treatments were tested with and without guardrails.•Vertical and horizontal red-white panels on guardrails attracted the most overt attention.•Without guardrails, large object markers better-attracted attention.•Results seem to favor red object markers over green ones, but additional research is required.
