•Long lesion length≥15cm is an independent predictive factor of severe dissection.•Occlusion or stenosis≥70% is an independent predictive factor of severe dissection.•Severe calcification is a protective factor against severe dissection.•Using a scoring balloon can reduce the occurrence of severe dissections.
