The invention discloses a transmission line defect identification method based on an SURF algorithm. The method comprises the following steps: 1, carrying out pretreatment; performing edge detection on the power transmission line image; carrying out graying processing on the edge detection image; obtaining a power transmission line in the power transmission line image by using Hough transform; calling a Rect function in the OpenCV, solving coordinates of four vertexes of a minimum rectangular region where the power transmission line is located in the power transmission line image, thereby obtaining the minimum rectangular region, namely a region of interest ROI, containing the power transmission line in the original image, and completing an extraction process of the region of interest of the power transmission line image; Aiming at the characteristics of the power transmission line image, extracting the characteristics of the power transmission line image by adopting an SURF algorithm,and representing the power transmission line image as a numerical vector by combining a BOW algorithm; And determining the defect type of the power transmission line in the power transmission line image through an SVM algorithm. The defect type of the power line in the complex natural environment can be quickly and accurately identified, and the inspection efficiency of the power line is greatlyimproved.
