In silico comparative genomics analysis of Lactiplantibacillus plantarum DW12, a potential gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-producing strain

•Complete genome of L. plantarum DW12 was presented and analyzed using bioinformatics approaches.•GAD operon analysis against 31 GABA-producing strains was performed to highlight and compare the abilities and differences among these strains.•This study is the first meta-analysis using 576 L. plantarum genomes to display and compare their characteristics and genetic diversity.•L. plantarum DW12 could be a good probiotic candidate using as a starter culture for producing GABA in food and beverage applications.
