Global topology alteration of the brain functional network affects the 8-week antidepressant response in major depressive disorder

•The brain functional network of patients with major depressive disorder (MDD) still had a small-world organization, while the clustering coefficient (Cp) and local efficiency (Eloc) decreased significantly compared with normal controls (NCs).•It revealed that MDD patients might exhibit disruptions in whole-brain functional networks.•Global topology alteration of brain functional network affects the 8-week antidepressant response in MDD, and may have the potential to become treatment predictors of MDD.
