•Oligosaccharides analyzed by ion mobility spectroscopy-tandem mass spectrometry.•[M + Na]+, [M + Cl]−, and [M−H]− precursors and their fragments were studied.•Differentiation within trisaccharide, tetrasaccharide and pentasaccharide isomers achieved.•CID-TWIMS-MS/MS separated most of the isomeric fragment ions.
