Clinical and microbiological features of anaerobic implant-related infection in 80 patients after orthopedic surgery

•Anaerobe-alone infections show later onset compared to co-infection cases.•Anaerobe-alone infections showed lower biomarker levels than co-infections.•The top anaerobe identified in 80 cases was Cutibacterium acnes.•Vancomycin is the first choice against C. acnes in implant-related infections.
