Abstract
Haptics is a technology that registers touch by applying vibrations, motion, or forces to the user while interacting with robotic devices. The literature on the use of haptics in robots designed for upper extremity rehabilitation in stroke patients spans over the last two decades. Research focuses on clinical results without addressing users' perspectives. Therefore, this paper aimed to examine the users' views on using haptics to augment technology-enabled physiotherapy interventions. We analyzed 42 articles that involved haptics to find information about users' views and found that no studies included data on users' perspectives on haptics. Therefore, it is recommended that researchers collect qualitative data when studying the effect of haptic technologies so that user's perspectives are evidenced as part of the validation and clinical studies.
