Corrosion behaviour of plasma sprayed Fe based metallic glass (Fe73Cr2Si11B11C3 (at%) coatings in 3.5% NaCl solution

•Fe-based amorphous/nanocrystalline coatings were synthesized by atmospheric plasma spraying using low Cr containing Fe-based amorphous powder.•The variation of porosity content, degree of amorphous content and surface morphology of the coatings with coating thickness and its correlation with corrosion behaviour discussed.•Coating with optimum combination of the porosity, amorphous content and uniform surface topography, surface roughness exhibits superior corrosion resistance.
