Linearization of a Coupled tank MIMO system and its validation using MATLAB

The coupled tank set-up is an important element used in process control industries with an objective of controlling levels of liquid in the tank. The interacting coupled tank level control system has been described in this paper is multivariable in nature. The dynamic model of such a system being non-linear requires linearization such that the conventional controllers such as PID controller can be designed. The linearization is carried out using a Taylor series expansion. The extracted linear model along with PI controller is further used to simulate the system performance in Matlab and the validation of the same is carried out through the experimentation on the physical set-up.
