•Long-term pre-incubation was conducted to assess its effect on the Q10 of SOC.•PE was greater in high C soil than low C soil response of different temperature.•Higher incubation temperature resulted in a greater PE derived from stable C pool.•Q10 of stable SOC mineralization depends on the pre-incubation temperature.
