Cross-calibration of Chinese Gaofen-5 thermal infrared images and its improvement on land surface temperature retrieval

•The land surface temperature retrieval results were improved after cross-calibration.•A new split-window algorithm was proposed to verify the cross-calibration method.•The residuals of the split-window algorithm were optimized by the LightGBM method.•Validation was conducted using ground measure data and achieved good results.
