摘要
Considerable research and developments are evident in recent time in the area of neuromorphic engineering. Modeling of a single biological neuron remains a fundamental issue in successful and efficient realization of the functionalities of a neuron. Specifically, modeling of action potentials along with prediction of their precise time instants of occurrence are important for studying neural information processing mechanism.Considerable amount of measured data on spiking responses of varieties of cortical neurons are available from Allen Institute for Brain Science. In this paper, we focus on finer parametric details of individual spikes (action potentials) with an aim to study their statistical properties. A generalized version of a well established and effective Two Pulse Synthesis (TPS) model is used to obtain parameters for more than 250 action potentials with a set of seven parameters for each spike. The proposed model provides a novel description of action potential and an alternative way of understanding the sharp changes in membrane potential during neural spiking.
