摘要
Venous thromboembolism, which includes deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, is one of the most common postoperative complications in hospitalized patients (900,000 annual cases), with a mortality rate of 2% to 10%. Although difficult to diagnose and treat, venous thromboembolism can be effectively prevented by prophylactic measures. The objective of this study is to report a case of a patient who was submitted to a bimaxillary orthognathic surgery without intraoperative complications and 1 day post operation developed venous thromboembolism and pulmonary embolism. The clinical management was performed in pairs with the medical clinic team, and after 7 days of hospitalization the condition was controlled and the patient was discharged without sequelae.
