Abstract
Although well-studied in schizophrenia, little is known about how cannabis use affects cognitive function in bipolar disorder (BD). Chronic, heavy cannabis use is highly prevalent among people with BD. Although associated with poor health outcomes, many people with BD report using cannabis to ameliorate their symptoms. Research also suggests possible pathophysiological interactions between the endocannabinoid and dopaminergic systems that contribute to effects on cognition. We sought to delineate the effects of chronic cannabis use on cognitive functions relevant to BD and cannabis.
