Statin use for the prevention of seizure and epilepsy in the patients at risk: A systematic review and meta-analysis of cohort studies

•Seven cohort studies with more than 25,000 patients were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis, which was the largest study published to date probed into the definite impacts of statin on the risk of seizure and epilepsy.•Prophylactic use of statins significantly reduced the risk of seizure in the patients at risk (4 studies; 6,076 subjects; pooled OR, 0.35; 95%CI, 0.25-0.48; p = 0.001), without heterogeneity (I2 = 0.0%; p = 0.975).•Prophylactic use of statins also significantly lowered the risk of people at high risk for epilepsy (5 studies; 22,849 patients; pooled OR, 0.48; 95%CI, 0.31-0.73; p = 0.001), with significant heterogeneity (I2 = 28.7%; p = 0.010).
