摘要
Renal Ischemia/reperfusion injury (IRI) is characterized by the restriction of blood supply, followed by restoration of blood flow and re-oxygenation. Reperfusion itself paradoxically exacerbates tissue injury, threatening the function, and viability of the organ. IRI is usually associated with a variety of homeostatic changes that involve reduced energetics, and oxidative processes that contribute to mitochondrial dysfunction. Depending on the severity and duration of the injury, this condition can be reversed completely to reinstate normal function or be sustained for the subsequent loss of function.
