Prevalence Of Work Related Neck Pain Among Nurses

Objective: To find out the frequency of work-related neck pain among nurses in Lahore, Pakistan.Methodology: In this cross sectional study, 360 nurses of both gender with age between 25 to 55 years working in different hospitals of Lahore participated. Study duration was six months. Those with fracture, surgery, neurological problem and spinal deformity were excluded. Neck Disability Index was used to check disability level and Visual Analogue Scale was utilized to check the pain intensity. Statistical analysis was done by SPSS version 21.Results: Out of 360 nurses, 333 (92.5%) were females and 27 (7.5%) males. Mean age was 29.13%+/- 7.121 years. Prevalence of neck pain was 57.8%. We found that 27.2% had mild pain and 30.6% moderate pain. 44.2% looked after themselves normally without causing extra pain and for 20.8% it was painful to look after them but slow and careful.Conclusion: Neck pain is a common among nurses. Women have more neck pain than men. Nurses also had disturbed routine during their duty hours.
