•Halophyte can be used as ornamentals to support the floriculture industry.•L. stocksii is suitable for cultivation in moderately saline areas.•Yield of L. stocksii declines under high salinity due to osmotic and ionic factors.•Ca2+ improves growth at high salinity by its effect on water status and Na+-secretion.•Application of Ca2+ assists to grow L. stocksii in high saline areas.
