•Mycobacterium tuberculosis FtsZ is a potential antibacterial target.•Xray structures of Mtb FtsZ in complex with a coumarin are presented.•We identify two novel inhibitor-binding cryptic pockets.•Cryptic pocket formation is controlled by the dynamics of H7 helix.
