EFFECT OF THE COMPOUND OF MAGGOT,TEA,KONJAC POWDER AND PUMPKIN POWER ON IMMUNOLOGIC FUNCTION IN THE TYPE 2 DIABETES MELLITUS (T2DM) RATS

[Objective] To study the effect of the compound of Maggot,tea,Konjak powder and pumpkin power on immunologic function in the type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) rats. [Methods] A total of 60 healthy Wistar rats were selected and randomly divided into two groups:normal control group (n=16) and T2DM model group (n=44). The rats in the T2DM model group were fed with high fat and sugar diet for four weeks following by small dose injection of STZ (30 mg / kg,intraperitoneal injection) to establish the models,which were successfully established if the fasting blood sugar ≥16.7mmol / L. The 39 successful T2DM rat models were randomly divided into two groups:T2DM model control group and T2DM model experimental group. The normal control group and the T2DM model control group were fed with basal diet. The T2DM model experimental group was fed with the compound diet. All the rats were fed for 8 weeks. Then,the blood sugar and serum total protein,albumin,IgG,IgM,C3,C4,the number of peripheral blood WBC,LYM and CD3+,CD4+,CD8+ percentage were measured and the index of thymus and spleen was calculated as well. [Results] (1) Befor injection of STZ,fasting blood sugar in every group had no significant difference (P﹥0.05). After one week of the injection of STZ,the average value of the fasting blood sugar in T2DM model group was 24.40±5.15 mmol / L,which had significant differences compared with the normal control group (P﹤0.05). After 8 weeks of feeding,the blood sugar in the T2DM model control group and T2DM model experimental group were higher than that in the normal control group,and there was significant difference between them (P﹤0.05). The blood sugar in the T2DM model experimental group was less than that in the T2DM model control group,which had significant difference (P﹤0.05). (2) The levels of serum total protein,IgG,C4,CD4+ and the thymus index in the T2DM model control group and T2DM model experimental group were less than those in the normal control group,and there were significant differences be-tween them (P﹤0.05). The levels of serum albumin,IgM,CD3+,CD4+/ CD8+ and the percentage of lymphocyte and the spleen index in the T2DM model control group were significantly less than those in the normal control group (P﹤0.05). The levels of serum total protein,albumin,IgG,IgM,CD3+,CD4+ and the percentage of lymphocyte and the indexes of thymus and spleen in the T2DM model experimental group were significantly higher than those in the T2DM model control group (P﹤ 0.05). [Conclusion] (1) The compound can reduce the fasting blood sugar. (2) The compound can partly enhance the immune function of the T2DM rats. (3) The compound of Maggot powder,tea,Konjak powder and pumpkin power may be the more ideal supplementary food for the patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus to enhance immune function.
