Optimization of the eco-friendly solvent-free microwave extraction of Limnophila aromatica essential oil

•Solvent-free microwave extraction was applied to obtain essential oils.•Extraction was implemented using a face-centered central composite design.•The essential oils were evaluated in different seasons of the year.•The metabolic profiles of the essential oils were assessed.•Seasonality had a remarkable impact on the bioactivity of the oils.
